GREAT NUTRITION QUIZ FOR STUDENTS
By Info
May 5, 2006

Below is an example of some content from the NDC site. For the quiz and more information go to http://www.ndc.ie/teachertoolkit/lunch_box.html

Lunch Box Ideas

For a healthy lunchbox, try to include something from the four main food groups:

  • Cereal group: wholegrain bap, pitta pocket, roll.
  • Milk group: small portion of cheese, yogurt or carton of milk.
  • Meat group: chicken, ham, tuna, sardines, egg or smooth peanut butter.
  • Fruit and Vegetable group: a banana or satsuma, handful of cherry tomatoes.
Growing boys and girls need 3 servings of dairy foods every day (3-a-Day) for healthy teeth and bones. One serving is a glass of milk, a match box-sized piece of cheese, or a pot of yogurt. These can easily be fitted into lunchboxes or eaten as snacks during the day.

Suggested lunchboxes

Variety is the key to a tasty, healthy and interesting lunchbox. Why not try some of these tasty lunchbox fillers?

  • Bagel with tuna, sweetcorn and cheese.
  • Pitta pocket with grated cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.
  • Wholemeal roll with hummus, lettuce and peppers.
  • Pasta salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers and tuna/chicken.
  • Chicken salad tortilla wrap with cheese and salsa.
  • Wholemeal bread with ham, cheese, tomatoes and cucumber.
  • Rice salad with vegetables and chicken.
