The hard and excellent work carried out over the last months was well rewarded when  Baldoyle BC had a very successful Dublin  league campaign, winning seven titles and one runner up place in this prestigous competition. The league championships competitions are for boxers between  the ages of  11 to 16 years old.

The Boxers with Coaches Gabriel Fitzpatrick and Christy Dunne
Some of our great boxing champions have progressed to become International level competitors through these competitions over the years.

Congratulations and best wishes for the future to every one involved. Keep up the brilliant work.

Ouch on the end of Conor Ahearnes punch
Edward Hendricks over the years has built up a very strong club. He is supported by a very  experienced and dedicated group of coaches, Christy Dunne, Gabriel Fitzpatrick and Eddie Byrne.  Over the years the club has produced some excellent boxers.  At present Conor Ahern is the clubs most noted Senior Champion and is currently holding the Senior Irish Light Fly title 2004/2005.  Conor’s main goal is to make the Irish Olympic team for the summer of 2008.

On the evening of 16/09/05 Coaching Ireland visited the Baldoyle Boxing Club.  The club was a hive of activity.  Pre league training had commenced.  There were over thirty boxers working out.  Their ages ranged from 9 to 30

The training session was well organised with each boxer working through their programmes.  In a snap shot there was sparring, bagwork, padwork, skipping, circuits ongoing and some boxers were being put through their individual programmes to develop different aspects of their performance.  Emphasis was being put on the basics of boxing; stance, guard, footwork and boxing techniques as well as speed and strength training.

Edward Hendricks: was the former Light Welterweight Champion of Ireland, for the years 1970/1971.  He represented Ireland in the European Championships, Madrid, 1971.
He founded the Baldoyle Boxing Club in 1983

What is your coaching philosophy?
First and foremost boxing is a disciplined sport where fitness and stamina are essential.  The boxer must continue to better himself while aiming to peak at the top of his career.

What in your view makes a great boxer?
Dedication, discipline and hard training will go a long way to making a great boxer.

Who inspires / inspired you as a coach?
I was inspired by what I got out of boxing over the years as a competitor, so I decided to put something back into the sport.

Where do you see changes or improvements in coaching for amateur boxing in the future?
I feel boxers must be able to train full time and coaches must be paid expenses.

What are the most important things in order of importance in the development of excellent boxers?
1. Lifestyle
2. Technique
3. Nutrition
4. Rest / sleep
5. Family support
6. Finance
7. Equipment

What would help you to become an even more effective coach?
Presently the opening hours of the club are restricted to three days a week, as the gym is rented.  A gym of our own would be of great benefit.

The club is open from 1st week in September till the last week in May.
The opening hours are: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and on Sundays at 11.00am.

To join come along on any of the days and times above
