LAKESIDE WHEELERS  MULLINGAR

CO WESTMEATH,

Lakeside Wheelers is a Cycling and Touring Club catering for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Our main activities are mid to long distance touring spins around the highways and byeways of the Lake County with organised spins on Sunday mornings and - during the summer months - on Wednesday evenings.  We also organise and participate in a number of larger leisure and touring events throughout the year.

Club spins usually consist of the group remaining together until a midway break point when there is a break for refreshments.   Stonger cyclists usually take a longer route at a somewhat faster pace home while the more leisurely members return at their own pace.

Typical distances range from 65km in to 130km  depending on weather, time of year and abilities.

In addition to touring spins and events some of the members are also involved in mountain biking and to a lesser extent road racing

The club's assembly point for Sunday morning and midweek spins is Market Square, Mullingar. See the calendar for dates and times of organised spins and other scheduled cycle events.

NAAS CTC WHEELWORX

club meet every Sunday morning at 10am in the Carpark of Tesco Naas Co Kildare. We have a mixed group of male and female leisure cyclists and we have a variety of members from some racers to vets. Ages vary from thirty somethings to late fifties. we have been in existence for over twenty years. The route is decided on the day depending on wind etc. but all riders can decide for themselves how far they wish to cycle.

We usually split during the ride into abilities. At the moment we are doing around 40/50 miles on sundays. from Naas we can choose flat terrain towards the Kildare direction or cycle into the Wicklow mountains if we choose. It all depends on the weather and what riders want.

This sunday we are doing what we call our spring classic Naas to Laragh via Wicklow Gap and home over Sally Gap. Most will go the full distance some will turn off early. Winter training will then  start when we keep the miles down and just keep in shape for the spring. We dont have a racing section any more..

We have two major tours during the year
- Borders tour 100km in July usually
- Marie keating (big numbers for that) in August 100km - 50km and a fun 20km for families. great day!!

Feel free to contact me by email if you are  interested in joining us. We would like all participants to be paid up club members for the purposes of insurance etc.

NORTH DOWN CYCLING CLUB

BANGOR CO DOWN

Based in Bangor Co Down, North Down Cycling Club organises two training runs every Saturday morning from the clubrooms in Park Drive. Riders from neighbouring clubs, Ards CC and Dave Kane are regular participants and the runs are open to anyone who can go the distance. Leaving at 9am, the long run is 60 miles with an optional extra loop of 10 miles at the end.

The run is essentially a circuit of the scenic Ards peninsula, with a tea stop at 30 miles in Portaferry. The route is undulating but finishes with climbs at Bradshaw's Brae and Craigantlet Hills. Average speed 17 - 18mph but with stretches on the homeward leg where speeds will be 22 - 24mph.

The Short Run:   The short run, also leaving at 9am, is of 40 miles at a steadier pace, averaging 15 - 16 mph with a tea stop at Greyabbey. This run is ideal for leisure riders or a competitive cyclist returning from a lay-off. Both runs attract about 30 - 40 riders altogether.

Sunday morning rides have a similar pattern. At 9am a long run of 60 - 70 miles at a decent pace attracts fitter, competitive riders, while the 10am run of 40 miles suits the leisure riders or those looking for a recovery run. This run normally has a tea stop at Castle Espie wildfowl centre on the shore of Strangford Lough.

The club has a qualified sports scientist, Darren McWilliams who can arrange for controlled physiological testing at the Belfast Institute.
Further information and contacts are available on the club website at  www.northdowncc.com
