28 Special Olympics Ireland volunteers received their Level 1 Tutor Development
28 Special Olympics Ireland volunteers received their Level 1 Tutor Development certificate at a graduation ceremony in The Crowne Plaza, Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday 30th October. The volunteers recently completed a tutor training course with Liam Moggan from Coaching Ireland, which will qualify them to deliver Special Olympics Ireland Introduction to Coaching Practices courses throughout the programme. This is a major milestone in the coach education programme for Special Olympics Ireland as it dramatically increases the capacity of the organisation to deliver the Introduction to Coaching Practices courses throughout the island of Ireland.
The Introduction to Coaching Practices course is an introductory level course designed to provide volunteers with the basic knowlege and skills required to coach Special Olympics athletes. As a result of the tutor training, since August 2009, we have educated 139 volunteers with these skills. Presentation of certificates were made by Frances Kavanagh, Director of Sports Special Olympics Ireland and William Micklen, International equestrian coach , tutor and author.
