Michael McGeehin, Director

Michael McGeehin Director

Michael joined Coaching Ireland as Director in April 2006. Prior to this he led the Donegal Sports Partnership from its inception to the successful completion of its first strategy.

Michael is a P.E. Graduate from the University of Limerick and had a successful career in the army retiring at the rank of commandant.

Michael is also a master tutor with the Ulster Council G.A.A. He is also a vastly experienced coach having coached a number of Inter County Teams including Mayo, Fermanagh, Roscommon, Laois and Clare. Michael also coached Finn Harps F.C.

Olivia Sweeney, Personal Assistant

Olivia

Olivia works as PA to the Director on a job-share capacity. She is responsible for providing administrative support to the Director, Michael McGeehin and is Executive Secretary to Coaching Ireland Board of Management.

A native of Tipperary, Olivia joined Coaching Ireland in November 1997.

Deirdre Morrissey, Personal Assistant

Deirdre Morrissey

Deirdre works as PA to the Director. She has been employed by Coaching Ireland since the Centre opened in August 1991. After taking a 5 year career break, she returned to Coaching Ireland on a job-share basis with Olivia Sweeney.

Deirdre is a native of Co Limerick and enjoys walking, running and attending local and inter-county hurling fixtures.

Corporate Services

Sheelagh Quinn, Head of Corporate Services

Sheelagh is the Head of Corporate Services and has responsibility for the following areas within Coaching Ireland; Communication, Media, PR, Sponsorship, Information Technology, Income Generation, Event Management and Administration. As part of the Management Team she contributes to policy and specific technical projects including LISPA and LTPAD.

Prior to joining Coaching Ireland team in 1997 Sheelagh worked in the leisure and sports industry managing Loughlinstown Leisure Centre and working as a Sports Development Officer in Northern Ireland.

Sheelagh has a masters (MSc) in Sports, Leisure and Exercise from the University of Ulster and a masters (MBA) in Corporate Business Administration from the University of Limerick.

Diarmaid Moloney, I.T. Administrator

Diarmaid is responsible for developing and maintaining Coaching Ireland's computer and communications infrastructure. Diarmaid's other responsibilities include the design and maintence of Coaching Ireland's National Coaching and Tutor database, maintaining the Coaching Ireland website and developing Coaching Ireland's online learning platform.

Sharon Deedigan, Office Co-Ordinator/Administrator

Sharon

Sharon works as the Office coordinator on a job-share basis with Ann McMahon and also provides administrative support to the Coaching Services Department. Sharon joined Coaching Ireland as a Receptionist/Secretary in August 1997. In July 1998 she took up the position of Office Coordinator.

Sharon is currently on leave.

Ann McMahon, Office Co-Ordinator/Administrator

Ann

Ann joined the team in November 2004. As Corporate Services Administrator/ job share office coordinator her responsibilities include, providing an event management service to both internal and external clients, coordination of administrative services including Tutor Development Courses and Assimilation applications and updating Coaching Ireland's Coaching Database.

Niamh Slevin, Administrative Assistant Finance

Niamh

Niamh joined the Administration team in July 1999 after graduating from HSI Limerick with a diploma in Office Information Systems. Niamh works as Accounts Assistant which involves processing of all invoices, payments and lodgment's and Carding Administrator dealing with carded athletes and service providers.

Niamh is currently on maternity leave.

Elizabeth Stundon, Administrative Assistant

 

 

Elizabeth joined the organisation in 2001. She comes from a business background and graduated from UL with a diploma in Business Studies in 1996. Since joining the organisation she has worked in various areas for the administration team. Elizabeth is an avid sports person and has completed many marathons, which includes Amsterdam, Venice, and Dublin. She is also a keen sailor and is a coach with the local camogie club.

Helen Quain, Receptionist

Helen is one of the most recent addition to the team and works primarily as the receptionist for Coaching Ireland. Helen is also in charge of inputting all coaching course information on the National Coaching Database.

Coaching Services

Declan O'Leary, Head of Coaching Services

declan

Declan who is Head of Coaching Services oversees a team of six Coach Education Officers and their administrative support team. The team works in developing coaching best practices and materials, supporting National Governing Bodies in rolling out the Coaching Development Programme of Ireland and in supporting coaches in their work with the children, players and athletes they coach.

He has a MSc in sport and exercise science, a BA in Physical Education and has previously worked with the IRFU and as a PE teacher. His current work includes developing the CDPI Third Cycle, overseeing the piloting of a revised CDPI Level 3 Course, representing Coaching Ireland at European Coaching Committee meetings, revision of the CDPI core syllabus and working with a range of National Governing Bodies in the CDPI.

Catherine Bird, Coach Education Development Officer

Catherine is one of six members of Coaching Ireland Coach Education Department. Within her role as Coach Education Development Officer Catherine supports the National Governing Bodies in developing coaching structures and materials in rolling out the National Coaching Development Programme. She leads the quality assurance aspect for coach education and has assisted over 26 National Governing Bodies to develop syllabi and materials for their coach education courses.

Liam Moggan, Coach Education Development Officer

Liam

Liam helps to plan and deliver the Tutor Development Programme, he also coordinates the National Assimilation Scheme.

He has been involved with Coaching Ireland since 1991 when a Coach Education Development Team was set up to examine coach education worldwide and help devise and implement a programme suitable for Ireland. He began working full time in the Centre in 1998.
Liam has an interest in all sports, is a former middle distance athlete and is actively involved as a coach in a range of individual and team sports.

Hayley Harrison, Coach Education Development Officer

Hayley joined Coaching Ireland in 2006 having lectured on the P.E. & Sports Science degree programmes at U.L. since 1995.  Her primary role in Coaching Ireland is the training and mentoring of Tutor Trainers, tutors within the Adventure Sports & Tutor Assessors. She also supports 10 individual NGBs in relation to their coach education programmes.

Hayley holds an M.Sc from U.L. and a B.Ed (Hons) from LMU (UK).  A former international athlete, hockey and netball player, she holds coaching awards in 15 different sports (including UK Athletics Level 4) and has coached athletes and managed teams up to and including the Olympic Games.

 



Fiona Larkin, Coach Education Development Officer

Fiona has worked in Coaching Ireland since 2003, first as a Research Officer and now as a Coach Education Development Officer. She has assisted several National Governing Bodies develop syllabi and materials for their coach education courses. She also works with a number of Adventure Sport National Governing Bodies to develop a training and accreditation framework for Adventure Sport instructors and leaders. Fiona works alongside Catherine Bird in quality assuring coach education programmes.

She has a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science (2002) and a MA in Health Promotion (2003). In her spare time, Fiona is a keen basketball player and runner.

Sunnhild Bertz, Research Officer

Sunnhild joined Coaching Ireland as Research Officer in September 2007. Prior to this she was a lecturer at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth (Department of Geography) and Research and Data Manager at Lisney.
A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Sunnhild holds a PhD (Human Geography) and B.A. Mod. (Geography & Sociology).
She has a keen interest in issues surrounding training, coaching and coach education (practices, methodologies, strategies), particularly within the wider European context.

Sunnhild is involved in masters swimming, competing at the 2007 European Masters Swimming Championships in Slovenia. She holds a 3rd Degree Black belt in Tae Kwon Do and represented Ireland at the European Tae Kwon Do Championships in 2002. She was involved in instructing at the Tae Kwon Do Centre in Dublin and participated in several International Instructor Courses.

Adrian Byrne, Coach Education Development Officer

Adrian Byrne

Adrian joined Coaching Ireland in January 2008 as a member of the Coach Education Department. Prior to this he was a full time ITF TaeKwon-Do Coach with clubs in Shannon and Tipperary and held numerous positions within the Irish Taekwon-Do Association.

Adrian has enjoyed success both as a competitor and as a coach in international Taekwon-Do events and currently holds a 4th Dan Black Belt. Adrian graduated from the University of Limerick in 2003 with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science. .

Caroline MacManus, Head of Performance Science

caroline

Caroline holds an undergraduate degree from Nottingham Trent University, and a Masters degree from the University of Sydney in exercise and sport science.

Caroline joined the Institute from Coaching Ireland (formerly the National Coaching and Training Centre; NCTC) where she operated as senior exercise physiologist. Caroline is currently involved in the development of the Institute’s High Performance Centres and the coordination of Performance Science services.

She was sport science coordinator for the 2000 and 2004 Paralympic Games.

Her interests are rowing competitively, surfing, reading and of course socialising with friends!

Deirdre Lyons, Head of Performance Support Services

deirdre

Deirdre joined the Institute from her role as Carding Scheme Coordinator at Coaching Ireland (formerly the National Coaching and Training Centre; NCTC) and is responsible for the operational management and coordination of science and medical support services.

She graduated from the University of Limerick in 1997 with an honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science and has a keen interest in research, especially in the area of long term athlete development.
